Conditional Classes in Angular Templates

In Angular, conditional classes can be applied to HTML elements using the ngClass directive. This allows you to dynamically add or remove CSS classes based on conditions in your component.

Using the ngClass Directive

The ngClass directive can be used to apply multiple classes conditionally. The general syntax is as follows:

Alternative Syntax

You can also use the class binding to apply a single class conditionally:

This is equivalent to using the ngClass directive with a single class:

<div [ngClass]="{'special': isSpecial}">...</div>

Using Ternary Operator

You can also use the ternary operator to apply classes conditionally:

<p [ngClass]="condition ? 'checkedClass' : 'uncheckedClass'">...</p>

This will apply the checkedClass if the condition is true, and the uncheckedClass if it’s false.

Best Practices

When using conditional classes in Angular templates, keep the following best practices in mind:

  • Use the ngClass directive for multiple classes, and the class binding for single classes.
